저도 같은 문제로 고민중임다..  해결은 보셨는지요?
 같이 문제를 해결해 가면 좋을것 같아, 제 상황을 아래에 붙입니다.

ipop3d 와 imapd 가 있는 디렉토리에서 이 파일들을 실행하면
ok 가 떨어집니다. 해서 user, pass 를 입력하고 들어가면
mail 이 있다고 나오네요. 이러면 데먼은 잘 된거 아닌지요?
 참, 제 서버는 파워리눅스 R2 고요. root 용량을 넘 적게 잡아서는
rpm 버전을 깔지 못하고 소스로 설치했슴다.. 아래에
/etc/inetd.conf , /etc/services 의 해당부분을 붙입니다. 잘못된
부분이 있다면 지적해 주시면 고맙겠습니다.
 1. /etc/inetd.conf 의 설정
pop-3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/src/Dagobah/SOURCES/imap-4.7/ipopd ipop3d
imap stream tcp nowait root /usr/src/Dagobah/SOURCES/imap-4.7/imapd imapd
 2. /etc/services 의 설정
pop3 110/tcp # POP version 3
pop3 110/udp
 3. 클라이언트에서의 에러 내용
