Korean goal celebration recalls Olympic furore
South Korea's goal celebration after scoring against the United States in World Cup group D on Monday was a pointed refe
rence to the short track speed skating controversy at this year's Winter Olympics.

The disqualification of Korean speed skater Kim Dong-sung and the award of a gold medal instead to American Apolo Anton 
Ohno in the 1,500 metres final in Salt Lake City provoked great anger in South Korea.

There were allegations of fixed judging in favour of the American hosts and the South Korean team almost boycotted the c
losing ceremony of the Winter Games in protest.

Korean college students later voted Ohno the man who would be "most unwelcome" at the World Cup, eclipsing Osama bin Lad
en, suspected mastermind of the September 11 attacks on the U.S.

After the Koreans scored in the 78th minute for a 1-1 draw, the team formed a line near the corner flag and aped the jos
tling movements of racing short track speedskaters.

Speedskating is a popular sport in South Korea.
