윗분 답변이 맞습니다...^^;
확장자가 tar.gz이더라도 무조건 소스파일이 아닙니다.
님께서 받으신 것은 이미 컴파일 되어 있는 바이너리 소스입니다.
에러 메시지를 잘 살펴보세요..
NOTE: This is a MySQL binary distribution. It's ready to run, you don't

님께서 configure했을때 나왔던 에러 입니다.
에러만 잘 살피셔도 문제의 90%이상은 해결하실 수 있습니다.
mysql.com에 가셔서 mysql-3.23.xx.tar.gz을 받으시기 바랍니다.
그게 소스 파일입니다.
